Toshiba Corporation has won a
$315 million order to supply the
turbine-generator package for
the 1,320-mw Meja supercritical power
plant in Uttar Pradesh. The power
project comprising two units of 660-
mw each is being developed by Meja
Urja Nigam Pvt Ltd, a joint venture
between NTPC Ltd and Uttar Pradesh
Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd.
The TG island will be manufactured
at the Chennai facility of Toshiba JSW
Turbine & Generator Pvt Ltd, a joint
venture between Toshiba (75 per cent)
and JSW Group (25 per cent). Some
part of the equipment will also be
made at Toshiba's Keihin Product
Operations in Japan.
The scope of the contract covers
engineering, procurement,
manufacturing, installation and
testing of the steam turbine generator
islands. Commercial operation of the
first unit is scheduled in 48 months
from the contract award and the
second unit in 54 months.
Toshiba Group has established a
network of companies in India to
provide localized EPC solutions from
concept to commissioning. Toshiba
India Pvt Ltd in Gurgaon undertakes
overall project management. TPSC
India in Hyderabad carries out
installation and commissioning; and
Toshiba JSW, manufactures steam
turbines and generators.
Toshiba in February this year won
the order to supply turbine-generator
package for the Kudgi super thermal
power project (Stage I) of 2,400 mw,
comprising three units of 800 mw
each. Incidentally, the boiler package
of the Meja power project will be
supplied by BGR Energy Systems Ltd.
BGR has tied up with Hitachi Group
for the manufacture of both
supercritical-grade boilers and
turbine-generators.
