— Suhas Joshi,
Director, Delta Power Solutions (India) Pvt Ltd
Delta Group is the world's largest provider of switching power
supplies, as well as a major source for power management
solutions, components, visual displays, industrial automation,
networking products, and renewable energy solutions.
Suhas Joshi
speaks about important issues in the power backup industry, and
also discusses Delta's growth plans in this segment. Joshi asserts
that Delta has consciously followed the "green culture" in its power
management solutions and is focused on improving the density and
efficiency of its products.
What is the estimated size of the power backup market in India,
and at what rate is it currently growing?
The power backup market in India is about Rs.3,600 crore
which is a growth of around 9per cent over the previous
year. In this market, UPS holds a major share but some
vendors would often combine other constituents like cooling
along with power back up. With India's economy set to grow
at a brisk pace and with the continued power deficit
situation, the demand for alternate or backup power
solutions in the form of generator sets, power inverters and
UPS solution is expected to witness a healthy growth in the
coming years. Delta will contribute significantly by offering
solutions to industry for various applications specifically
designed to protect mission critical information technology
(IT) systems, telecommunications, Voice over Internet
Protocol (VoIP), network equipment and light industrial
applications.
The future of the UPS market seems quite promising, as it
finds application in industries as varied as telecom, process &
industrial automation, IT, electronics & electrical, banking,
SMBs, and several other industries.
Delta has been at the forefront in introducing "green"
technologies in the manufacture of UPS. Tell us more.
Environmental protection and energy conservation has been a
long-standing mission at Delta. Being the world leader in power
management solution, we not only design the most energy efficient and environment-friendly products but also practice
and educate on putting the principles of green design into
practice. The switching power supplies designed and made by
Delta are a good example. We are dedicated to raising power
conversion rates and improving the efficiency of the majority of
our products to higher than 95 per cent.
What is your view on the growing demand for UPS in Tier-II and
Tier-III cities, and Delta's plan to improve penetration in these
markets?
There is lot of untapped market in tier II and tier III cities.
Delta is expanding its reach in all the regions through its
channel partners. Apart from a strong sales and service
support, we provide quite competitive margins to our dealers.
We encourage our partners to have a services revenue model
too, which proves be quite a lucrative option. Most of our
channel partners are growing at phenomenal speed, at par
with the company's growth.
Do you have any expansion plans at the Rudrapur plant in
Uttarakhand?
Delta is continuously working on reducing the per-watt size of the
rectifier and increasing the power efficiency and density. We are
also working aggressively on designing cost effective alternate
energy solutions. We have green factories at Rudrapur, Gurgaon
and Pondicherry. Moreover, Delta's corporate office at Gurgaon is
built on green building concept.
Delta, as we understand, had plans to launch a 3-phase UPS
system for data centre applications. What is the current status?
Delta's Ultron Series is a double-conversion and IGBT-rectifier
three-phase UPS. With a state-of-the-art triple level inverter (TLI)
and three phase power factor correction (PFC) topology, the
product features industry leading performance. Aiming to achieve
the highest availability possible, Delta's Ultron Series has special
designs in the areas of battery management, fan speed control
and ease of maintenance. With a smaller footprint, higher
efficiency, and lower cost, the Delta Ultron Series is also
transformer less and designed to meet today's market
requirements. Delta also offers an optional inbuilt isolated
transformer model when the application needs galvanic isolation.
Are there are any new launches planned in the near future?
To serve the industry’s need of clean power 24x7 for critical loads,
which needs to be in continuous operation and demand high level
of data integrity and availability, Delta will launch Amplon IN
Series. The Amplon IN series 1-3kVA is a true online double conversion
UPS in tower configuration with in-built Galvanic
Isolation Transformer which helps to generate isolated neutral
(IN) wherever required.
Also, Delta has plans to launch Datacenter solutions with other
product infrastructure solutions like PDU/PDC/Racks and EMS.
With 40 years of leadership in the core technologies of power
electronics, the expert teams at Delta Electronics has developed a
new generation of smart solutions for IT rooms.
