Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd, the state government-owned power producer, has planned to invest 2,500 crore in setting up two gas-based power plants in joint venture with public sector Gail (India). UJVNL is in possession of land at the two power plant sites-Kashipur and Hardwar.

In June last year, UJVN had signed an MoU with GAIL to set up the two gas-based power plants of 350-mw each. A total of Rs.2,500 crore is proposed to be invested in the two power plants. The majority of the power from these power plants would be sold to Uttarakhand through a long-term power purchase agreement.
