— Vijay Deshpande, CMD, Enertech UPS Pvt Ltd
Incorporated in 1990,
Enertech UPS Pvt Ltd is a prominent name in
the field of power solutions with a wide product range spanning
online UPS, voltage conditioners and also solar power packs. In an
exclusive exchange,
Vijay Deshpande tells us more on his
company's core values, products and future plans. Deshpande is
confident that solar energy can play a very big role in a country like
India whose need for power is only multiplying with time. An
interview by
Venugopal Pillai.
At the outset, please summarize your product range in the field
of power conditioning equipment.
Our product range covers online UPS, solar PCU, LED lighting
solutions, solar power packs, turnkey solar projects, special
type chargers, voltage conditioners, etc.
What do you perceive as the key demand drivers for your
products?
The key demand drivers for our product range are variation in
supply parameters, gap between demand & supply, uncertainty
in price rise of grid power, and export of power.
Can you give us an idea of the market size of the online UPS (of
more than 1 KVA rating) and the rate at which the industry has
been growing in recent years?
I think the market size should be Rs.10,000 crore-plus and
growing at a minimum of 30 per cent annually.
We observe that Enertech does not cater to the home UPS
segment (less than 600 VA). Is this is a conscious move?
Yes, entering into home segment in a limited manner is by
design.
We understand that Enertech makes UPS systems with built-in
power factor correction technology. Please elaborate.
With change in grid regulation, having low power factor
solutions is adding to customer's problem which cannot be a
company's mission.
Do you have plans to expand your manufacturing capacity?
The UPS industry is a system engineering industry
hence manufacturing is not restricted to factory premises
but gets extended to field work. Hence, a combination of
automation and efficient manual processes cannot be
overlooked.
How important is R&D in the field of power conditioning
equipment?
Our foundation and strength at inception has been R&D.
Elaborating the importance R&D in any industry is quite
redundant!
In general terms how has technology made online UPS and
inverters efficient over time? What has been the situation with
respect to Enertech's products?
The major factors in UPS are distortion, efficiency, and power
factor. Every option in technology is a combination of these
achievements. Based on the customer's demand we offer
technology-based solutions. This is possible as our products
are not an outcome of conveyer belt setups!
We observe that companies are now making power
conditioning equipment that combines qualities of power
backup, voltage regulation, power factor correction and pure
sine wave power.
Yes it is possible to give power
conditioning solutions with combination
of voltage regulation, power factor
correction amd pure sine wave for R&D based
organizations.
As far as we understand, an online UPS
and an inverter have similarity in design
(rectifier, storage battery and inverter).
What is then the essential difference
between an online UPS and an inverter?
An inverter is a part of UPS system; hence
we being technology-based solution
providers offer hardware based on
customers needs. An inverter installation
assumes criticality in uninterrupted
power hence factors like voltage
regulation, power factor correction and
pure sine wave are overlooked.
What is your view on the competency of domestic UPS/inverter
manufacturers catering to the global markets?
We have had limited interests in the domestic inverter
market. We prefer to take up challenges using our technology
strength, which is not required for inverter supply, to
global markets.
Tell us more on the solar-based UPS systems produced by
Enertech. In general how do you the evolving role of solar
energy as a provider of backup power, if not regular grid power?
Solar can be the key to solve problems for India whose power
need is multiplying. Take the case of Gujarat. It was powerstarved
and now it is exporting power. This, we feel, was
possible because of the decision to enter solar power.
Enertech has been in business for well over two decades now.
What are core values that you would like Enertech to stand for?
The core values that Enertech stands for are customer
satisfaction, upgrade of technology,
keeping improvement planning as the
base of every department, and to be
honest towards achievement.
We observe that multinationals are
entering the Indian UPS market through
alliances and takeovers.
Joining hands with multinationals in
business and running organization in
competition to them is entrepreneurship!
It all depends on the top man's need!
Please discuss some key corporate goals
that you would like to see Enertech
attaining in the next 5-7 years.
Enertech is always striving to do pioneering
work in solving energy problems and would
like to pursue its corporate goal of serving
as "energy technocrats."
