The foundation stone for a new 66/11kV grid substation of BSES Yamuna Power Ltd was recently laid at the hands of Delhi Chief Minister, Ms Sheila Dixit. Located at Mayur Vihar Phase3—Kondli, this would be BYPL's 51st grid substation.

To be constructed at a cost of over Rs.16 crore, the new grid substation will power the fast developing and the densely populated area of Mayur Vihar. With an initial capacity of 50 MVA, which can be augmented to 75 MVA depending on the area's load growth, this substation will serve over 1 lakh customers in areas like Mayur Vihar Phase 3 that covers 60 apartment complexes, Vasundhara Enclave, Dharamshilla Hospital, East End Apartments, colleges, schools, two metro stations, the Hilton Double Tree Hotel and over 1,400 DDA newly-constructed flats.

“With the addition of the Mayur Vihar 3 grid in Kondli, we will increase the installed capacity for this area to 300 mw, which is adequate to meet the area's power needs for the next five years. The grid will also further increase the reliability and quality of power supply and help BYPL in reduction of technical losses,” noted Ramesh Narayanan, CEO, BYPL.

A statement by BYPL observed that the private utility has invested over Rs.2,000 crore in upgrading its network spread over east and Central Delhi that it inherited from DESU in July 2002. During this year's summer, BYPL met a peak demand of 1,413 mw, which was the highest ever in the utility's command area.

Quick succession: In a closely following development, Ms Sheila Dikshit also laid the foundation stone for BYPL's 52nd grid substation at Deen Dayal Upadhya Marg, near Minto Road. Meanwhile, BYPL has partnered with Indian Overseas Bank to install 15 ATMs at its Customer Care Centres across east and central Delhi to facilitate 24x7 payment.
