The FMCG arm of Wipro Ltd has launched
a 5.5-W LED bulb which replaces a 40-
W incandescent lamp. LED lights, which
help save more than 85 per cent energy
compared to an incandescent bulb, also have
a longer life. These bulbs can run up to
50,000 hours compared with 1,000 hours of
an incandescent lamp, a release noted.
Wipro already has a presence in the
commercial and the domestic lighting
solutions segment with its CFL range.
Wipro Lighting manufactures and markets
the Wipro Brand of compact fluorescent
lamps, commercial and industrial
luminaries, and lamps. The LED market in
the country is estimated to have grown by
36 per cent in 2010.
Lighting accounts for nearly 20 per cent of
the total energy generated in India. Hence,
energy efficient
solutions can help
reduce the energy
burden tremendously
and most importantly
reduce the emission
of greenhouse gases
responsible for global
warming, a statement
by Wipro observed.
