Simens agThe Adani Group has dedicated to the nation India's first private sector HVDC power transmission line, running from Gujarat to Haryana. The 500kV bipolar line from Mundra in Gujarat to Mohindergarh in Haryana covers a distance of around 1,000 km, traversing Rajasthan en route.

The Rs.1,500-crore order for building the line was placed, in May 2009, on Siemens AG and its Indian arm Siemens Ltd. Apart from constructing the line, the Siemens duo also built the HVDC terminal stations at the extremities amd all supporting infrastructure.

With a transmission capacity of 2,500 mw, the line will be used to supply power from the Mundra power complex to Haryana. The Adani Group, it may be mentioned, has entered into a power purchase agreement to supply 1,424 mw to Haryana. Apart from this, the Gujarat-based group has also entered into agreements to supply to Gujarat (2,000 mw), Maharashtra (2,520 mw) and Rajasthan (1,200 mw).

Power supply to Gujarat will be done through the 430km, 400kV dedicated line from Mundra to Dehgam. This line, believed to be the longest dedicated private sector transmission line, was commissioned in early 2011. Other transmission lines by Adani Group include a 221-km 400kV Tiroda-Warora line in Maharashtra for intra-state transmission from the Tiroda plant.

On the power generation front, Adani Group has set a target of attaining capacity of 20,000 mw by 2020. Currently, 16,500 mw of capacity is under development spread over Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Adani Group is also an active proponent of efficient supercritical power technology for its power generation plants.
